The microscope carriage is mounted on a pair of parallel steel rods, along which it moves freely for coarse adjustment. Fine adjustments are made by means of a fine-thread screw.

The pedestal can be used horizontally or vertically and the microscope tube can be swivelled so that it is parallel or perpendicular to the motion.
